FAQ   Coastal 3-in-1 Sand Carrier (Self-Suction + Self-Discharge + Coastal Operation)

Q1. What is a "3-in-1" coastal sand carrier?

A:  It refers to a coastal self-suction & self-discharge sand carrier that integrates three core functions:
  • Self-suction Dredging: Equipped with a suction pump to extract sand from seabeds/rivers without auxiliary dredgers.

  • Self-discharge unloading: Uses a conveyor system to unload sand directly to shore or Barges, no cranes/hoppers needed.

  • Coastal operation: Designed for shallow-water coastal navigation, complying with China’s domestic sea-going regulations.

Q2. What are the typical size and tonnage ranges?

  • A:
    Gross Tonnage (GT): 2000–15000 DWT

  • Length Overall (LOA): 60–180 m

  • Draft: 4–9m

  • Cargo Capacity: 3000–10,000 m³ sand

Q3. How does the self-suction system work?

  • A: Suction mode: Submersible pump or jet suction head is lowered to the seabed to suck sand-water mixture (slurry).

  • Dewatering: Slurry is pumped into the hold, with excess water drained back to the sea, leaving sand in the cargo hold.

  • Suction capacity: 800–6000 m³/h (depends on pump power and sand density).

Q4. What is the self-discharge process?

  • A: Conveyor system: A belt/chain conveyor runs along the hold bottom, lifting sand to a discharge boom.

  • Discharge distance: 10–30 m from the vessel to shore/barges.

  • Discharge rate: 500–2000 m³/h, completing unloading in 4–12 hours (vs. 24+ hours for traditional sand barges).
