The World's Tallest Pile Frame Pile Driving Vessel, "CRCC Piling No. 1," Officially Delivered

 

On March 31, the "CRCC Piling No. 1" was officially delivered in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. Designed by Shanghai Bestway Marine Engineering Design Co.,Ltd. and built by Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. for China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., this delivery marks a significant milestone. It signifies that China has achieved full-chain localization in the "design-build-operate" spectrum of ultra-large marine engineering equipment, providing solid support for major deep-sea projects.

 

Core Specifications: Three World Records

Piling Leader Frame Height: 156 meters, the highest in the world.

Lifting Capacity: Capable of driving piles with a diameter of 7 meters and a weight of 700 tons, the largest globally.

Operating Water Depth: Exceeds 70 meters, the deepest globally.

 

With an overall length of 130.5 meters and a width of 40.8 meters, this pile driving vessel is the first domestically produced piling ship to feature a Dynamic Positioning (DP) system alongside these three world-class performance metrics. It boasts centimeter-level piling positioning accuracy and is capable of unrestricted navigation, meeting operational requirements for international offshore, coastal, and inland Class A waterways.

 

Two Global Firsts in Technology

Integrated "DP + Mooring Positioning" System: This fusion technology utilizes sensors to monitor wind, waves, currents, and vessel attitude in real-time. It automatically adjusts the ship's position and posture, ensuring stable operations even in complex sea conditions and extending the operational weather window.

 

Main Cylinder Closed-Loop Hydraulic System: Independently designed and manufactured in China, this system converts the potential energy from the piling frame's descent or tilting into recoverable electrical energy. With a recovery rate of up to 40%, it significantly reduces energy consumption and operational costs.

 

Additionally, the vessel is equipped with a low-sulfur oil system and a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust gas treatment system. These features ensure emissions meet the highest international standards, allowing the ship to operate within global emission control areas.

 

Core Component: The World's Largest Opening/Closing Hydraulic Cylinder

In January of this year, the vessel's core component—the world's largest opening/closing hydraulic cylinder—was unveiled in Changzhou. With a cylinder bore of 1.6 meters and a fully extended length of approximately 50 meters (roughly 17 stories high), it boasts a rated thrust of 5,000 tons (equivalent to lifting 3,500 family sedans). It ranks first globally in weight, diameter, length, and thrust, achieving complete independent control.

Debut: Building Latin America's Largest Sea-Crossing Bridge in Brazil

Following its delivery, the "CRCC Piling No. 1" will voyage to Brazil to participate in the construction of the Salvador Sea-Crossing Bridge, the largest cable-stayed bridge in Latin America. In the future, the vessel will continue to serve major marine engineering projects both domestically and internationally, providing robust support for deep-sea engineering, sea-crossing bridges, and offshore wind power construction.
