List of Deck Machinery for ASD Tugboats (Specifications and Layout Points)

This list is applicable to standard ASD Tugboats (Azimuth Stern Drive Tugboats), covering five core categories of deck machinery: towing equipment, anchoring equipment, mooring equipment, auxiliary operation machinery, and fire-fighting equipment. It specifies the specifications, layout positions and core points of each equipment


I. Towing Equipment (Core Operation Category, Concentrated at the Stern)

Steering Adaptation: Compatible with full 360° rotation operation, preventing cable entanglement

1. Arranged in the central area of the stern deck, close to the poop; 2. The drum axis is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the hull to ensure uniform force on the towing cable; 3. Reserve operating space around and equip with guardrails; 4. Arrange in a straight line with the bollard and fairlead to reduce cable turning friction

Provide constant towing pull and retract/extend the main towing cable; complete core operations such as pushing/towing large ships during berthing/unberthing, ocean towing, and emergency rescue

Auxiliary Towing/Mooring Winch

1. Drive Mode: Hydraulic/electric; 2. Rated Pull: 80–150kN; 3. Drum Specification: Suitable for Φ24–Φ32mm cables; 4. Control Mode: Manual + remote control dual mode

1. Arranged symmetrically on both sides of the main towing winch; 2. Close to the stern fairlead for quick cable guiding; 3. The body is firmly fixed with reserved maintenance space

Retract/extend auxiliary towing cables and mooring cables; assist in hull positioning and cable handling, and cooperate with the main towing winch to complete multi-cable coordinated operations

Towing Bollard (Double-post/Single-post)

1. Material: High-strength alloy steel; 2. Rated Load: Not less than the maximum pull of the main towing winch (500–800kN); 3. Structure: Double-post (preferred), column diameter Φ120–Φ150mm, height 800–1000mm

1. Arranged directly behind the main towing winch, at the edge of the stern deck; 2. Aligned with the center line of the fairlead and main towing winch; 3. The bottom is welded to the strong structure of the deck with anti-corrosion treatment

Fix the main towing cable and bear the maximum towing pull; protect the main towing winch to avoid direct cable force on the winch body

Fairlead (Roller/Roller/Clamp Type)

1. Material: Wear-resistant alloy steel with surface quenching treatment; 2. Roller Diameter: Φ150–Φ200mm; 3. Suitable Cable Diameter: Φ32–Φ56mm; 4. Bearing Capacity: Not less than 300kN

1. Arranged in front of the towing bollard, at the outlet of the main towing winch, and at the edges of both sides of the stern; 2. The roller axis is perpendicular to the cable force direction to reduce friction; 3. Firmly fixed to prevent displacement during operation

Guide the direction of towing cables and mooring cables; reduce friction between cables and the deck/equipment, prevent cable wear and derailment, and adapt to multi-directional force of full rotation

Shark Jaw (Towing Cable Retaining Device)

1. Type: Fork type/connecting rod type (choose one); 2. Drive Mode: Hydraulic/electric/manual; 3. Rated Load: 100–800kN (adapt to main towing cable pull); 4. Suitable Cable Diameter: Φ24–Φ56mm; 5. Function: Equipped with emergency release device, complying with GB/T XXXXX—XXXX/ISO 24041:2020 standard requirements

1. Arranged between the stern main towing winch and the towing bollard, symmetrically distributed on both sides of the towing pin center line (left-hand/right-hand type); 2. Aligned with the cable force direction and fixed to the strong structure of the deck; 3. Reserve operating space around and do a good job in anti-corrosion and waterproof treatment

Temporarily retain the deck towing cable and chain rigging and bear the load, assisting the towing bollard to fix the cable; cooperate with the main towing winch to complete cable positioning and emergency fixing, and realize load release in emergency situations

II. Anchoring Equipment (Berthing and Positioning Category, Concentrated at the Bow)

Windlass (Combined Anchoring and Mooring Machine)

1. Drive Mode: Hydraulic/electric; 2. Anchoring Speed: 8–12m/min; 3. Rated Mooring Pull: 100–200kN; 4. Suitable Anchor Chain: Φ22–Φ30mm, length 200–300m; 5. Configuration: Anchor chain wheel, mooring drum, clutch, braking system

1. Arranged on the bow deck, directly behind the hawse pipe; 2. The body is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the hull; 3. Equip with protective devices around to avoid injury from anchor chain bouncing; 4. Close to the anchor chain compartment entrance for convenient anchor chain storage

Integrated anchoring, dropping anchor and bow mooring; retract/extend the anchor chain to fix the ship position, and retract/extend the bow cable at the same time to complete port mooring, temporary anchoring and emergency anchoring positioning

Anchor, Anchor Chain, Hawse Pipe/Chain Locker

1. Anchor Type: Hall anchor/Spade anchor, weight 2000–5000kg; 2. Anchor Chain: Grade C, Φ22–Φ30mm, pitch 180–220mm, total length 200–300m; 3. Hawse Pipe: Diameter Φ100–Φ150mm, length suitable for anchor storage; 4. Chain Locker: Volume ≥1.5m³, with anti-surging plate

1. Anchor: Arranged in the bow anchor recess, aligned with the hawse pipe; 2. Hawse Pipe: Penetrates the bow deck and hull, with wear-resistant bushing at the outlet; 3. Chain Locker: Located below the windlass, connected to the hawse pipe, with waterproof and anti-corrosion treatment

The anchor provides seabed grip to fix the hull; the anchor chain connects the anchor and the windlass to buffer wind and wave impact; the hawse pipe guides the anchor retraction and extension, and the chain locker stores the anchor chain


III. Mooring Equipment (Berthing and Fixing Category, Distributed Throughout the Boat)

1. Bow: 1–2 units supplementary arranged beside the windlass; 2. Midship: Symmetrically arranged on both sides of the deck, 1 unit each; 3. Stern: Arranged beside the auxiliary towing winch, corresponding to the mooring bollard; 4. The body is fixed on the deck strong beam with reserved operating space

Retract/extend mooring cables to fix the ship to the wharf/buoy; cooperate with the towing winch to complete cable handling and unmooring during berthing/unberthing, ensuring berthing stability

Mooring Bollard (Bow, Midship, Stern)

1. Material: High-strength alloy steel; 2. Rated Load: Bow 80–150kN, Midship 60–100kN, Stern 100–180kN; 3. Structure: Double-post/goat's horn type, column diameter Φ100–Φ120mm

1. Bow: 2 units symmetrically arranged on the edge of the deck, in front of the windlass; 2. Midship: 2–3 units on each side of the deck, spacing 3–5m; 3. Stern: 2 units symmetrically arranged on both sides of the towing bollard; 4. All mooring bollards correspond to the fairlead positions for convenient cable fixing

Fix mooring cables and bear mooring pull; adapt to multi-directional mooring needs of the whole ship, ensuring the stability of the ship during berthing

Hawse Hole, Roller Fairlead, Cable Stopper

1. Hawse Hole: Diameter Φ80–Φ120mm, wear-resistant material; 2. Roller Fairlead: Roller diameter Φ120–Φ180mm, bearing capacity ≥150kN; 3. Cable Stopper: Suitable for Φ20–Φ32mm cables, rated load ≥80kN

1. Hawse Hole: Arranged on the edge of the deck, corresponding to the mooring bollard position; 2. Roller Fairlead: Arranged between the mooring winch and the mooring bollard to reduce cable friction; 3. Cable Stopper: Close to the mooring bollard, arranged in a straight line with the fairlead and mooring winch

The fairlead guides the direction of the mooring cable and reduces wear; the cable stopper temporarily fixes the cable and releases tension, protecting the mooring winch and preventing cable slipping

IV. Auxiliary Operation Machinery (Maintenance and Loading/Unloading Category, Arranged as Needed)

1. Arranged in the midship or stern of the deck, avoiding the operation area of towing and mooring equipment; 2. The body is fixed to the strong structure of the deck with foundation reinforcement treatment; 3. The working radius covers the entire deck for convenient material transfer

Hoist spare parts, cables, life-saving equipment and fire-fighting equipment; complete deck equipment maintenance, material loading/unloading and marine emergency rescue operations

Standby Cable Reel

1. Material: Carbon steel + anti-corrosion coating; 2. Drum Diameter: Φ500–Φ800mm, length 1000–1500mm; 3. Suitable Cable Diameter: Φ24–Φ56mm, cable storage length 100–200m

1. Arranged in a dedicated cabin under the main deck or a corner of the stern deck; 2. Close to the main towing winch and mooring winch for quick cable replacement; 3. The reel is firmly fixed with a locking device to prevent drum rotation

Store standby towing cables and mooring cables; facilitate cable maintenance and replacement, ensure operation continuity, and respond to emergency situations of cable damage

Capstan (Manual/Hydraulic)

1. Type: Manual/hydraulic dual mode; 2. Rated Pull: 30–60kN; 3. Suitable Cable Diameter: Φ16–Φ24mm; 4. Drum Length: 300–500mm

1. Arranged in narrow areas of the deck (such as beside the bow anchor recess, stern corner); 2. Close to the operation point for convenient manual operation; 3. The body is small and fixed on the deck bracket, not occupying core operation space

Light mooring, auxiliary retraction/extension of small-diameter cables; temporary traction of light equipment and materials, used in narrow spaces or emergency operations


V. Fire-Fighting Deck Equipment (Emergency Fire-Fighting Category, Distributed Throughout the Boat)

1. Arranged at high points of the bow, stern and midship of the deck (such as the top of the wheelhouse, poop deck); 2. The jet range covers the entire ship and surrounding areas; 3. Firmly fixed with a protective cover, with waterproof and anti-corrosion treatment

Jet high-pressure water or foam to perform external fire-fighting and marine fire-extinguishing operations; cool the hull and towed ships to respond to fire emergencies

Fire Hose Reel

1. Hose Specification: Φ50–Φ65mm, length 20–30m; 2. Working Pressure: 1.0–1.6MPa; 3. Configuration: Equipped with quick connector and water gun, manually deployable

1. Arranged on both sides of the deck, beside the wheelhouse, at the engine room entrance and near the fire control station; 2. The spacing is not more than 15m to ensure full deck coverage; 3. Fixed on the bracket for quick access, with moisture-proof treatment

Provide short-range fire water; used for initial fire extinguishing on the deck and cabins, supplementing the short-range operation blind area of the fire monitor


VI. Summary of Core Configuration (Standard ASD Tugboat)

 Bow Area: 1 unit of windlass (combined type) + anchor chain system (1–2 anchors, 200–300m anchor chain) + 2 bow mooring bollards + 2–3 sets of fairleads/hawse holes

 Stern Area: 1 unit of main towing winch + 2 units of auxiliary towing/mooring winches + 1–2 towing bollards + 2–3 sets of roller fairleads + 1–2 shark jaws (symmetrically arranged)

 Whole Ship Distribution: 4–6 mooring winches/capstans + 6–8 mooring bollards + several fairleads/cable stoppers + 1 knuckle boom crane + 1 standby cable reel + 2–3 fire monitors + 4–6 fire hose reels + 1–2 shark jaws (stern-specific)

 General Requirements: All equipment shall comply with marine industry standards, be properly anti-corroded and waterproofed, be equipped with emergency operation devices, and be regularly maintained and calibrated,
